Description Converts files online from one format to another.  You don't have to download any software.  An example of how this could be helpful would be:  Say you have an image file in .tiff format, but you you have a program that only will only take the .jpg format.  Zamzar can make that happen.  The best part is that it can do convertions for not only images, but audio, video, documents, and many others.  A list of conversion types can be found here: http://www.zamzar.com/conversionTypes.php
Process
  1. Go to http://www.zamzar.com.
  2. In the Step 1 section, click the Browse... button and either locate or enter the URL of the file you wish to convert and click Open.
  3. In the Step 2 area, use the drop down to select which format you wish to covert to.
  4. In the Step 3 area, enter an email address where the file will be sent to.
  5. Lastly, in the Step 4 area, click on the Convert button to begin the conversion.
  6. When the conversion is complete, a file link will be emailed to you.

Primary Source Example

Situation:  The online presenation tool Prezi allows videos to be enbeadded in it, but only in Flash Video Format (.flv).  American Memory has numerous videos you can download, but they are not formatted in .flv format

 

Solution:  Use Zamzar to convert the American Memory Video into Flash Video format.

 

Process:  After downloading a Quicktime version of the video from American Memory, we went to http://www.zamzar.com and followed the four steps on the screen.

 

When the process was complete Zamzar emailed a link to the video in .flv format, ready to be used in Prezi.
